MALCOLM Turnbull has unfollowed all but 26 of the people he used to follow on Twitter when he was the prime minister.
Just weeks since he was deposed from the nation’s top job, Mr Turnbull is now following his wife Lucy, son Angus, son-in-law James Brown, Donald Trump and French president Emmanuel Macron.
Mr Turnbull has kept a handful of journalists from “left or centre news sites”, one unfollowed Twitter poster claimed.
After many years, I have now been unfollowed by @TurnbullMalcolm on Twitter. He has cleared his followers entirely and has chosen to follow just 17 accounts. A few family members, left or centre news sites, world leaders and ABC and Fairfax journos. This says so much about him.— Matthew Lesh (@matthewlesh)
Research fellow at (right wing) Institute of Public Affairs Matthew Lesh said the conscious unfollowing “says so much about him”.
Mr Turnbull has retained Seven News, Guardian Australia, Reuters and CNN, Nine political reporter Chris Uhlmann and ABC journalist Annabel Crabb.
Oddly, because the polls no longer matter to him personally now he has quit political life altogether, he still follows @GhostWhoVotes.
The Twitter handle, owned by an unidentified political observer, is always first with the latest reports about Newspoll results.
Mr Turnbull, who is currently in New York with wife Lucy, would have had to spend time going through and deleting the people he followed — or getting someone else to do so.
He still has 987,000 followers.
